Fever, cold, cough, diarrhea, malaria, dengue and typhoid are common diseases during monsoon, especially to kids due to their weak immunity.
To avoid these health problems it is necessary to take some precautions.
Following Ayurvedic Home remedies & tips for Monsoon are helpful:
Monsoon season leads to low digestive power and decrease immunity. Hence it is important to eat a balanced diet. The Diet you take regularly plays a vital role in enhancing your immunity and strengthens your digestions.
- Garlic, pepper, ginger, asafoetida (hing), jeera powder, turmeric and coriander help enhance digestion and improve immunity. So try to incorporate these in your diet
- Take vitamin-C supplements or fruits containing Vitamin-C, Since Vitamin-C helps in fighting against viral and bacterial diseases
- Have light foods prepared out of old barley, rice and wheat
- Eat warm food
- Add ginger and green gram in the daily diet
- For cough, a pinch each of long pepper powder and rock salt mixed in warm water is helpful
- For Cold and chest congestion have milk with little turmeric, honey with pepper powder
- Drink a glass of warm water mixed with a teaspoon of honey in empty stomach
- Drink a glass of warm water mixed with a teaspoon of honey in empty stomach. This flushes out accumulated toxins
- Freshly prepared radish juice is the best remedy for cold
- A pinch each of long pepper powder and rock salt mixed in warm water reduces cough

In Indigestion
Ingredients:
1. Rice-1/2 cup
2. Water -4 cups
3. Long pepper- 2or 3
4. Ginger -1’’
Method of preparation:
1. Cook rice with recommended quantity of water with crushed ginger and salt.
2. Powder long pepper and fry it in a spoon of cow’s ghee and add it to gruel. Consume this when it hot. This is very light to digest and relieves colic pain.
In Diarrhea
Ingredients:
1. Rice -1/2 cup
2. Water – 4 cups
3. Ginger paste – 1/2 spoon
4. Salt to taste
5. Pomegranate juice: ½ cup
Method of preparation
- Cook rice with recommended quantity of water with ginger paste and salt
- Add pomegranate juice when the gruel is warm. This gruel rehydrates body and supply energy. This soothes inflamed walls of intestine and controls bowel movements
Due to germs present in rainwater people often get skin diseases such as ringworms, rashes and skin infections. Major issue during rainy season is the fungal infection.
- So keep your body clean and dry and never keep your skin and body wet for a long time. Luke warm water for bath, antifungal soap, cream and talc are effective
- If your skin gets dry and it makes you irritated feeling, then just moisturize it. Apply rose water, glycerine, honey, almond or moisturizer before sleep
- Use sun screen while going out
- Scrub gently, sometimes to exfoliate the dead skin and let the skin get suppler
- Once a week give a body massage with butter or olive, sesame or coconut oil before bath
- Apply castor oil or sesame oil for cracked feet and skin
- A freshly prepared paste of turmeric, neem and sesame seeds is recommended in Ayurveda for fungal infection between toes
General Tips:
- Never let rain water accumulate, in your house or your neighborhood.
- Sprinkle bleaching powder, kerosene oil or any other insect killer regularly around your house.
- Sleep under mosquito nets. These are safer than using mosquito coils.
- Always keep your food covered, as un-covered food attracts insects and houseflies that carry germs.
- Try to eat fresh food. Even if you are eating food cooked in the morning, Warm it before consuming it – This will kill any bacteria that may be present.
- Avoid eating street food or food served in a un-hygienic place.
- Drink purified or boiled water.
- Wash your vegetables thoroughly before cooking.
- Wash your hands and feet with antiseptic soap, first thing after coming back home.
- Add a few drops of Dettol or Savlon (antiseptic liquid) in water for washing cloths.
- If you get drenched due to rain, try to change into dry clothes as soon as possible. Rain water contains germs and wearing wet clothes for long increases the chances of infection.
- Avoid Sleeping in daytime, over physical exertion, over exposure to the sun.
- Avoid eating uncooked foods and salads.
- Do not enter an air conditioned room with wet hair and damp cloths.
